Red-eyed Tree Frogs (genus Agalychnis) are hard
to find. They live low in the trees of tropical swamps, but
they only come out at night. To find these frogs at La Selva
Biological Station in Costa Rica, I went out at night and
searched the swamps with a flashlight. The eyes of these frogs
reflect the flashlight, so they can be spotted at long distances.
Snakes and big spiders also reflected the flashlight, and
I found the swamps to be quite crowded with creatures. These
frogs were my favorites. The one shown here is Agalychnis
callidryas. |
